Description

Swamp Sunflower Helianthus angustifolius

A close cousin to the garden sunflower, swamp sunflower has smaller flowers but blooms for a longer period of time providing late summer to fall color. Daisy-like yellow flowers with black eyes sit atop dark green foliage. At 6-10’, this perennial is great in masses as a specimen, or back of the border. Also good in meadows, bog gardens, native wetland plantings. Prefers a moist site with full sun to part shade though it will tolerate dry conditions once established. Spreads by rhizomes. Can cut back by 1/3 in June to produce a bushier plant. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Hardy in zones 6-9.  Plants are shipped in 3.5-inch containers.
