Description

Fragrant Tea Olive or Osmanthus Fragrans f. Aurantiacum,

is an evergreen  shrub that can be very large with a mature height up to 30ft and 16ft wide in it’s native habitat in Asia.  When it is cultivated it will typically grow 10-15ft tall.  It can be controlled to grow a more compact size when clipping off growing tips once the shrub has been well established in the ground.  It blooms small orange flowers with 4-5 petals each that are hard to see from far away but stand out against the green leaves. They bloom in April, and may sporadically throughout the summer, produce a large apricot fragrance that can be smelled from dozens of feet away.  Its leaves are evergreen with a glossy look that are smooth on the face and edges.  It needs full sun with part shade and is best to have afternoon shade during hot summer days when the temperature is higher.  It needs medium amounts of water and loam type soil that is consistently moist while being tolerate to clay soil.  It has a hardiness zone of 8-11 so is must grow in warmer climates and cannot be in the central or northern areas of the United States unless taken in a controlled climate.  It is shipped in a 1-gallon container.
