Native Strawberries

$13.95

Native Strawberries, Wild Strawberry, or Fragaria Virginiana,

is a native perennial that produces small wild strawberries that are edible by animals and humans. It is a older species than the strawberries we find in the grocery store and produces much smaller strawberries. These berries can be harvested in the summertime. The native strawberry plant grows 4-9″ tall and 1-2 ft wide making it useful for ground cover. Radial white blooms also are produced during the springtime which attracts pollinators, bees, and songbirds. This makes it a wonderful plant as you get something throughout the year. The leaves are semi-deciduous, losing their leaves for a short time during the wintertime, especially in more tropical locations. It spreads by runners that root in the ground nearby and spread in that area. It grows best in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil that is moist but occasionally dry. We ship this plant in a 1-gallon container.
