Juniper Procumbens Nana
Juniper Procumbens Nana or Juniperus procumbens ‘Nana’
is a needled evergreen that grows .5-1ft tall and 5-6ft wide. Its growth is very compact and dense, giving it the appearance of a green mat. The branches intertwine as they spread out and produce prickly leaves that have a slight blue look to it. In the winter they have a purple shade to it. It can cover more distance over a long period of time, but it is slow growing. It can be pruned to keep it contained in a smaller area. If left unpruned it will fold in on itself if left in smaller areas. It does grow over small obstacles. It tolerates dry conditions, deer, heat, and works well for erosion. It has a hardiness zone of 4-9, so it can be planted in most areas of the US. It grows in full sun best and needs an open space in order for it to thrive. It is low maintenance. It is shipped in a 1-gallon container.
