Foxglove Apricot Beauty or Digitalis purpurea ‘Apricot Beauty’
is a unique and beautiful biennial. It will sometime act like a perennial and other times it will act like an annual depending on where you live. In Alabama the winter typically does not get cold enough and they will bloom the following year. But their best show comes from their reseeding. After they have bloomed in the spring it is good to cut them at the base and leaves the stem on the ground. The seeds from the pods will grow next year producing more foxgloves. Its blooms form an oblong tubular shape in a clone like manner as they go up the stem. The color of the blooms are apricot with a mixture of white, unlike the original fox glove of purple, pink, and white. They grow 2-5ft tall and 1-2ft wide and bloom from May to June. They grow best in full sun to part shade in moist well-drained soil. It is a extremely hardy plant living in zones 4-9 but does better in colder climates rather than warmer ones. It can struggle with the heat and wind in southern summers. It attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. It is resistant to deer and rabbits. It is very poisonous to human consumption that will lead to many negative symptoms. It is also poisonous to cats, dogs, and horses. We ship this plant in a 4in and 1-gallon container.
