Missouri Ironweed or Vernonica Missurica,
is a southeastern native perennial that blooms purple ball shaped blooms. The blooms open up into a grass like form but much smaller. They cluster together making a concentrated area of purple. They sit on top of a long stem that grows upright. They like to vary in size but grow anywhere from 3-5ft tall and 3-4ft wide. Rusty seed clusters follow the blooms after early fall. The term “Iron” is used for this plant because it has a tough stem and rusty spent flowers and seeds. They bloom from July to August. They grow best in full sun and well-drained moist to wet soil. Do not let the soil get dry. It tolerates to deer & wet soil. We ship this plant in a 1-gallon container.
