Virginia sweetspire, ‘Itea virginica’
This semi-evergreen spreading shrub is an old favorite that historically grew along southeastern stream banks and wet woodlands. It does best planted in moist soil in part shade. Blooms are showy white elongated spikes in abundance in late spring. It has gorgeous red fall color & the red leaves hang around for a long time in winter. Good by a deck, in a mixed border as well as massed together in a single species border. 3-6’ X 4-6’. Attractive to birds, bees and butterflies. Deer resistant. Plants are shipped in one gallon containers.
