Purple Passion Flower, Maypop Passiflora incarnata
A fast growing perennial vine with tendrils that grab hold of adjacent shrubs, structures or other supports growing 8-12’ high though it can go longer when mature. Gorgeous, beautifully intricate purple/blue flowers appear in summer. Full sun to part sun. Grow on fences, trellises or allow it to scramble over shrubs and trees. The fruit, called maypop, is edible and tastes something like guava. If you don’t eat them, birds and other wildlife will. Host plant for Gulf and Varigated Fritillary butterflies. Hardy in zones 5-9. Plants are shipped in 1 gallon containers.
