Description

Maple Leaf Viburnum or Viburnum acerifolium,

is a deciduous shrub that blooms white flowers in June.  These flowers are small with 4-5 petals shaped in a tubular form which are clustered together forming a small village  made of dozens of flowers.  As summer continues small berries begin to sprout from the flowers, starting off as a creamy pink, into a lushes red, forming into a berry that is yellow and red as the flowers fade, and finally into a blue berry.  In the fall the foliage turns orange, yellow, and red as they prepare to fall while the berries remain on the bush.  This extensive transformation is what makes this plant a sight to behold from summer all the way to the end of fall.  It grows 3-6 ft high and 2-6ft wide making it a shrub that can be adapted to different sizes where needed.  It needs full sun with partial shade though it can tolerate more time in shade than other viburnums and needs a medium amount of water.  It is best planted in Loam (well drained) soil that is moist but occasionally dry with an acid less than 6.0 pH.  It has a hardiness zone of 3-8 making it a strong plant able to be planted through almost all of the United States except the hottest areas.  This shrub is shipped in a 1-gallon container.
