Ziziphus Jujuba ‘GA 866′
The jujube is native to China and is also known as the Chinese date. The red/mahogany colored fruit ripens in mid-September. The fruit has a sweet apple flavor and very high sugar content. It may be either eaten fresh or dried. This deciduous tree has lovely glossy leaves with yellow fall color and makes a wonderful shade tree. Height at maturity 15 to 25 feet. Jujubes are self-fruitful but will be more productive with another variety nearby. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Heat and drought tolerant. Requires 400-600 hours of chilling. Hardy in zones 6-9. The trees are 5 gallon size and are shipped bare root.
