Ficus carica ‘Celeste’
This fig is one of the old Southern favorites. A very cold hardy variety with small to medium sized light brown to violet skinned fruit with strawberry pulp. It is pear shaped with a tapering neck. The flavor is excellent but very delicate. Celeste has a tightly closed eye that remains closed until the fig is nearly ripe which prevents the dried fruit beetle and rain from entering which leads to souring. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Figs can be grown in sandy as well as clay soils. Height: 20 feet. Self-fruitful Hardy in zones 8-10 but can be grown as a container plants. Plants are shipped in 1 gallon sized containers.
