Olea europaea “Arbequine”
Is an edible ornamental olive with silvery grey foilage and attractive small dark fruit. The fruit is suitable for oil production and curing. The hardier Spanish variety, ‘Arbequina” is self-fertile and produces green fruit that ripens to dark brown/black in late fall. The trees are early producers and usually start producing fruit in the second or third year. The fruit ripens over time so green and black fruit appear at the same time making the ormanental value stronger. Great in containers, they are fairly tolerant of being root restricted. Easy to prune and train they make great standard topiaries. Height and width 10-12ft tall. Fruit ripens in late October/november Blooms late April/ early May. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Hardy in zones 8-11. Plants are shipped in 1 quart containers.
