Description
Malus domestica ‘Gala’
The Gala apple was developed in New Zealand. It is a cross between a Golden Delicious and Kidds Orange Red. It was introduced to the US in the 1970’s. Excellent for eating fresh or baking. The fruit ripens in July-August with sweet mild flavor and crisp flesh with yellow gold skin and pink to red stripes. Our trees are grafted on EMLA 106 rootstock and will be 10-21 feet tall at maturity. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Requires 700-900 hours of chilling. Hardy in zones 4-8. Another apple variety must be planted for cross pollination in order to produce fruit. Trees are 3 gallon size and are shipped bare root.
