Spicebush ‘Lindera benzoin’
Spicebush is a fragrant, old-timey favorite native shrub. All parts of the plant carry that spice-like smell when crushed. It is a deciduous clump-forming shrub that can reach 8-12’. It grows and looks best in part shade to part sun & with consistently moist soil. The small yellow blooms are a welcome site in early spring appearing even before the leaves. Spicebush also puts on a great show in fall with yellow to gold fall color and bright red fruit enjoyed by many birds. It is a host plant for the Spicebush Swallowtail and the Eastern swallowtail butterflies. Good in groupings, borders, woodland gardens.Plants are shipped in one gallon containers. Zone: 4-9
