Texas Scarlet is a hybrid flowering quince which is noted for it’s compact size.  A profustion of watermelon red flowers bloom in the early spring. The flowers are often followed by hard yellow fruit which ripens in the fall.  It is not usually eaten from the shrub because it is very bitter.  Mostly used in jams and jellies. The flowers are good cut flowers or forced for winter bloom.  Plants make a nice low hedge,specimen plant or used in cottage gardens. Plant in full sun to part shade.  Height: 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide.  Hardy in zones 5-9.  Plants are shipped in a one gallon container.
