Diospyros kaki ‘Fuyu Jiro’
Fuyu Jiro is the most well-known of the Kaki or Oriental type persimmons grown in the US. Fuyu matures its fruit about mid-October in Central Alabama. Like other Kaki persimmon it is self-fruitful and produces seedless fruit with outstanding flavor. The fruit are non-astringent and may be eaten while firm. Fuyu can be grown in Zones 8-10. Trees are 15 to 20 ft tall at maturity. Plants are 5-gallon size and are shipped bare root.
