Description

Pawpaw Asimina triloba

Pawpaws are a long forgotten treasure making a comeback. The fruit, a relative of the custard apple, is the largest edible fruit native to the US and was popular with native Americans, European explores, presidents and early settlers. It’s taste is described as a blend of mango, banana with a bit of pineapple though it varies from tree to tree in the wild. The tree itself is an attractive small tropical looking tree with large deep green foliage and unusual red flowers. A great addition to a part shade garden. Host plant for Zebra Swallowtail butterfly. You will need two trees for cross pollination to produce fruit. Hardy in zones 5-9.  Plants are shipped in 1 gallon containers and 1 quart containers.
