Description

Elderberry Sambucus canadensis 

A familiar site along streambanks and roadsides, elderberry can be grown as a shrub or a small tree reaching up to 12’. Small white flowers are borne in large flat-topped clusters in summer. Grow in full sun to part shade in average to wet soil. Forms colonies. Purple to black berry-like fruits in late summer to fall. Fruit can be used to make jams, pies and wine and is also attractive to birds and other wildlife. Best to plant two or more for fruiting. Butterflies attracted to flowers. Hardy in zones 3-9.  Plants are shipped in one gallon containers.
