Description

Vaccinium ashei ‘Becky Blue’

This a University of Florida release. It is adapted south of an east/west line from Montgomery, AL to north Florida area (in spite of low chilling requirement) has done well in our fruit gardens) Chill hour requirements 450 hours (45 degree fahrenheit and below). The harvest season is from June 1 to June 30 (at Petals). The plant has mainly upright branching and low number of canes per plant. The fruit is large size, grayish blue and the berries are somewhat firm to slightly soft with outstanding flavor. A good pollinator would be Climax. Plant in full sun and well drained soil with a ph of 4.5 to 5.2.  Hardy in zones 7-9.  Plants are shipped in one gallon containers.
