Description
Fragaria ananassa ‘Sweet Charlie’
Sweet Charlie is a very vigorous disease resistant strawberry producing medium sized fruit with a very deep red color. It is very sweet with great flavor and ripens ahead of other varieties by 7 to 10 days. Excellent choice for southern gardens. Good in containers and edible landscapes. In Central Alabama we usually begin to harvest from early to mid April. This variety does well in conventional matted row systems, using wheat or pine straw as mulch. If you choose to grow on black plastic Sweet Charlie and Chandler are the preferred varieties. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Hardy in zones 4-9 Plants are shipped in a 4 inch container.
