Description

Rosa ‘Peggy Martin’

This thornless climber is a found rose shared with Shelley and me by Dr. Bill Welch.  His stock plant came from Peggy Martin who received her start from Ellen Dupriest of New Orleans, LA.  A repeat flowering rose spanning 12- 15 ft. is covered with bright pink flowers in the spring and after a couple of years begins blooming again late summer until frost.  This rose impressed Dr. Welch with its disease resistance and great clusters of dark pink blooms.

After losing her parents, her home, and her garden during hurricane Katrina this rose and a crinum were the only two garden specimens to survive in Peggy’s New Orleans garden. Peggy Martin has bright pink flowers that bloom in clusters on semi-thornless canes.

A dollar of the purchase price of each ‘Peggy Martin’ rose will go to the Zone IX Horticulture fund administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.  The purpose of this fund is to restore gardens, parks, and green spaces in New Orleans, LA., Laurel, MS., and Beaumont, TX.  We are pleased to be participating in this effort and look forward to seeing more old garden roses in these areas very soon.

Height 12 to 15 feet.  Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Hardy in zones 4-9.  Plants are shipped in 1 gallon containers.
