Vaccinium ashei ‘Powderblue’
Powderblue is a North Carolina State University release. It is widely adapted across the Southeast ( all of Alabama) southward to north Florida. The chill hour requirement (45 degrees fahrenheit and below) is 600 to 650 hours. Harvest season is from June 20 to July 30 ( at Petals). The plant structure is spreading/upright with many canes per plant. The berries are medium to large, light blue, berries have good firmness. They don’t split as badly following rains. Plant in full sun in well drained acid soil with a ph of 4.2 to 5.5. A good pollinator would be Brightwell or Tifblue. Hardy in zones 7-9. Plants are shipped in one gallon containers.
