Star Magnolia Waterlily or Magnolia stellata ‘Waterlily’,
is a deciduous tree that grows 10-20ft tall and 8-15ft wide. It grows small buds on the tree during the fall time that sprout into beautiful white, sometimes slightly pink, flowers. The color difference is based on the individual tree. One of the great things about this tree is that it is deciduous, which means that its leaves change color in the fall and fall off. While this is happening the seeds for the flowers begin to form on the branches, so when spring comes the flowers bloom without leaves on the tree, coating the entire tree in white and pink, which is why it so beautiful in the springtime. Because of this the tree is beautiful year-round. In the spring you have the white and pink flowers, in the summer you have the green magnolia leaves, and in the fall you have those leaves change to yellow. It’s a tree that transitions all year round allowing the gardener to enjoy its beauty year-round. Its hardiness zone is 4-8 so it can grow in the milder areas of the United States, but not the coldest areas or hottest areas. It needs full sun with partial shade to grow well and medium amounts of water. The soil needs to be well drained, moist, occasionally wet, with pH: acid less than 6 and neutral between 6-8. This tree is shipped in a 1-gallon container.
