Zizyphus jujuba ‘Li’
Jujubes are sometimes called the Chinese date. Li bears rounded 2″ fruits that turn from green to purple to mahogany. Fruit ripens in August and September. Jujubes are self-fertile but have a greater yield with another variety near by. Li seems to be the most self-fertile of all. Jujubes wil reach a height of 18 to 25 feet. The foliage is glossy turning yellow in the fall. Makes a good shade tree. Jujubes need 400-600 hours of chilling but are very heat and drought tolerant. Plant in full sun in well drained soil, Hardy in zones 4-9. Trees are 5 gallon size and are shipped bare root.
