Description

Ficus carica ‘Champagne’

Champagne is one of the new releases from the Louisiana State University agricultural program. It is a cross between ‘Celeste’ and C1 which is a Capri fig from California.  It has moderate to small fruit with yellow to green skin and golden flesh.  Champagne has a slightly rounded end that tapers towards the stem and a short neck.  The eye is partially closed on mature fruit.  It ripens in late July here at Petals.  The flavor of this fig is good both for fresh eating and for preserving. Plant in full sun in will drained soil.  Figs can be grown in sandy as well as clay soils.  Self-fertile.  Height to 20 feet. Hardy in zones 8-10 but can be grown as a container plant.  Plants are shipped in 1 gallon containers.
